POWER is now back on at the remianing properties affected by an earlier power cut in Wellington.

Around 19 homes in the TA2 8 area were left without any power for several hours this afternoon.

It was due to damage to a cable, said Western Power Dsitribution.

A spokesperson for the company, said: "In the Wellington area there was third party damage to our cable and 19 customers could be affected, power was lost at 12.34am and our engineers are on site at the moment."

According to their website earlier today, power was expected to be back on by 3.30pm, however it was finally restored shortly after 4pm.

A further 534 properties in Taunton in the TA1 1 and TA1 3 were also left without power this afternoon - but WDP is still investigating why.

A spokesperson added: "In the Taunton area there were 534 customers off supply at 1.12pm and all customers were restored by 1.52pm."

"We are unsure of the cause of this power cut but investigations will take place."

Power was cut around station road, leaving the traffic lights off and surrounding businesses without electricity.

Busy barber shop Ashley's was struck by the power cut, which resulted in them losing customers.

Ashley Webber said: "We were without power for about 45 minutes.

"That is a long time for us as we can do about five haircuts in that time with four or five people here cutting, so we lost some customers.

"We tried doing some outside just to get a few more done.

"We were told it might not be back on till 4pm today but thankfully it is back on now otherwise we could have lost a lot more people."

The Museum of Somerset was another place in Taunton without power this afternoon, although only briefly.
A spokesperson for the museum said: "We had a power cut very briefly, only for about five seconds.

"I'm sure other places in the town have it worse."
