BONHAMS Auction House hosted an Antiques Valuation Day in aid of the restoration of a Milverton church clock.

St Michael and All Angel's Church, St Michael's Hill, Milverton, was filled with old treasures on Friday, July 15, as people came to visit Fergus Gambon, the son of beloved actor Sir Michael Gambon.

Entry into the church was free with a £2 charge for each valuation. Visitors were limited to three items per person.

Fergus Gambon is a ceramics specialist from Bonhams in London and appears regularly on the BBC's Antiques Roadshow.

Charles Lanning, a general valuer from Bonhams in Exeter, and Lucy Lanning, who specialises in jewellery and silver, also offered their expertise.

Organiser Lynette Courtenay said: "The day went extremely well, I think we managed to raise around £700 for the church clock fund. It was very successful.

"The money goes into the pot so if something goes wrong with the clock, the village won't have to pay for it.

"I couldn't have done it without the help of my willing helpers, especially Maggie Dinning who helped organise the event."
