BRIGHT colours were in abundance at the 34th annual Ruishton Flower Show from hydrangeas and roses to tie-dye fabrics through to pre-school paintings.

The hanging basket competition, judged the Sunday before the show, was won by Anne Parker.

The scarecrow competition, themed 'Fairy Tales', involved a week-long trail around Ruishton and Thornfalcon, with the favourite Lydia Carver’s entry 'Pinostraw'.

The potato crop class in front of the village hall was won by Sharon Duke, whose one potato produced a crop weighing over 2.4 kgs.

There was a high number of fruit, vegetable and flower entries and Sandra Rodgers won the Ruishton Challenge Cup for those sections, as well as taking home the Ruishton Vegetable Plate.

Hazel Greenslade was awarded the Marshall Cup as runner up in the vegetable and flower sections.

Viv Street came first in the keenly contested Claydon Challenge Trophy for rhubarb.

Other first time cup winners in the flowers section were Chris Ashurst (Dr and Mrs Carton Rose Bowl) and Sylvia Kearle (Mary Rolland Millennium Cup) for a pot flowering plant.

Bobby Jack Wallbutton was awarded the David Berry Cup for the best decorated wooden spoon.

Handwriting cups went to Ember Rollings and Anna Rose Harper and other cup winners in the children’s section were Mollie West for Lego and Hannah Madeley, who won the Henlade Cup for decorated cup cakes.

Lydia Carver retained the Arthur Jelks Tray for the highest number of points in the handicraft classes.

The Photography Cup was awarded to Julia Cann for her 'Travel Experience' photo and Sarah Callen was awarded the cup for hand knitting.

Hazel Greenslade achieved the highest number of points in the cookery classes to get the R & J Cave Cup, as the cup for scones.

The Walker Cup for section runner up went to Lydia Carver.

Wendy Boatman secured the cup for the best cherry cake while the Victoria sandwich cups went to Claire Madeley and Joe Owens.

There were record numbers of entries in the wine and drink section.

Gordon Rodgers was first in the any other liqueur section, with overall winner Pam Martin obtaining the Mrs Breeze Cup.

Sandra Rodgers’ rose wine was declared wine of the show.

Samantha Dash retained the Herbert Blaney Cup for miniature floral arrangement, as well as the Maudie Hayward Trophy as overall points winner in the floral art section.

The cups were presented by show chairman Mike Marshall who congratulated everyone who entered and all who had helped make the show such a success.
