MEMBERS of the Taunton business community recently competed in the annual Slee Blackwell Solicitors Croquet Challenge at Taunton Vale Croquet Club.
Graeme Biffen and Martyn Venner, of estate agents Greenslade Taylor Hunt, successfully defended their 2015 title with a back-to-back win in the team event.
Steve Horton and Marcia Dare of Milsted Langdon were runners-up.
John Coombs of accountants Simkins Edwards was victorious in the individual Crazy Croquet competition, displaying a fine mastery of mallet and ball.
This year’s event was in aid of Changing Faces, a charity helping people who have suffered disfigurement.
It was nominated by Slee Blackwell’s James McNally, who works with victims of dog attacks, many of whom sustain serious facial disfigurement.
The paella, cooked to an authentic and secret recipe by Slee Blackwell’s Rachel Thain, and sangria were appreciated by the teams, while they also enjoyed a cream tea.
Stephen Custance-Baker and his team at Taunton Vale Croquet Club hosted the event, officiating the matches and offering coaching tips throughout.
