CROWDS gathered to enjoy a night of celebrating all things Portugal.

Held at Kingsdown Pavillion in Bridgwater on July 9, Tuga Productions presents the first Great Night of Fado.

Three Fado singers, one Portuguese guitar and one classic guitar entertained the audience, with the venue set out in the traditional style of Fado's house in Lisbon.

There was also food, drink and other refreshments

Organiser Marco Santos said: "We are grateful for the support of the Town Council for this event.

"It was a dream of many years to bring a traditional Night of Fado to Bridgwater and that dream came true.

"All the room was decorated as in the traditional Fado's house in Lisbon, the food and drinks were selected to match the traditions and the artists made this event perfect.

"The room was nearly full, with 60% English and 40% Portuguese audience, including the Mayor, Mayoress and Councillor Diogo Rodrigues, the first International Councillor in Bridgwater and for our pride, he is Portuguese."

The singers gave performances, along with guitar tracks, and during the night there was some requests for certain songs.

As the evening drew to a close, photographs were taken.

The Mayoress invited the organisers to make a similar event at Bridgwater Arts Centre, with Mr Santos accepting.

He said: "As the main organiser of this event, I want to thank all the volunteers who helped making my dream come true.

"They are Esmeralda Assunção, Alzira Santos, Cristina Teixeira, João Teixeira, Joaquim Ribeiro and the little ones Katarina Santos and Miguel Lopes.

"Without them this was not possible!.

"Many thanks to all who attended the event, with a special thank you to those coming from Cardiff and Chard especially for this event.

"We will return with another Portuguese cultural event soon."
