THE death of a Taunton man who was enjoying his stag do in Poland is still unclear following his inquest.

Gary Edwards collapsed and died following a night out with a group of friends and his twin brother.

Mr Edwards, 28, had spent the day playing football with his brother Rob and 15 friends on the beach in Sopot before going for a meal and drinks in a bar.

He went back to the apartment where he was staying around 11pm but his flatmates found him dead in bed the following morning.

They tried unsuccessfully to revive him with CPR and his twin Rob had the heartbreaking task of calling their parents with news of his death.

Gary had been due to get married to fiancee Sarah Moore barely a month after his sudden death.

A post-mortem in Poland revealed that while he had been drinking before his death, he had 221mg of alcohol in 100ml of blood.

Senior coroner Tony Williams said: "This isn't a huge amount. It's certainly not enough to have caused toxicity or to be the cause of his death."

Blood tests also revealed no traces of illegal or prescription drugs in his system.

Gary's mother Hilary Edwards told his inquest she believed her son had died of an undiagnosed heart disease called Brugada, which frequently has no symptoms.

His immediate family members, including his father Terry, are all being tested to see if it is hereditary.

Mrs Edwards told the hearing in Taunton: "It's been hard. Because he died on a stag do, everyone has assumed that drugs or alcohol played a part in it all.

"Now we know that's just not the case."

The coroner ruled the cause of death as 'unascertained', saying there was not enough evidence for him to determine the cause of death.

Around 12 young people in the UK die of an undiagnosed heart complaint every week.

Gary worked as a scheduler at construction company Skanska, who helped to raise money for heart charity CRY at a summer fete.
