FIRE FIGHTERS were called to Lyngford Road in Taunton yesterday after smoke and flames were reported coming from a house.

Two fire engines were sent to the property shortly after 2.15am on Saturday (July 9).

Two additional fire engines which were mobilised from Bridgwater and Wellington to help fight the fire.

Shane Gilbert was walking home when he saw the fire.

He said: "I don't know much really apart from that nobody was hurt.

"I was walking home and saw the fire engines and the smoke. I saw the lights go on in the neighbours house so checked to make sure there was nobody in there.

"The owners and neighbours were all outside watching and there were three fire engines there."

The property, was around 15 metres by five metres with a fire located on the ground and first floor.

Crews used eight breathing apparatus, an attack jet, three hose reel jets, a safety jet, three ladders and a thermal image camera.

Western Power were requested to attend to isolate the electrics to the property. The British Red Cross Fire and Emergency Support Service also attended the incident and provided assistance and support to the occupants and neighbours.

Shortly before 5.30am, the fire was out and crews used positive pressure ventilation to clear the property of smoke. The cause of the fire was accidental due to an electrical fault within a consumer unit.
