A TAUNTON resident told of her shock after winning a County Gazette competition to meet popstar Will Young.

The Pop Idol winner is performing at St Margaret’s Hospice’s event Somerset Rocks in Vivary Park, Taunton, in August.

Wendy Wilson managed to scoop two special meet and greet tickets courtesy of the County Gazette and St Margaret’s Hospice, and she was presented with her prize by editor Paul Jones and St Margaret’s Hospice events manager Richard Wallace earlier today.

Mrs Wilson said: “It was a bit of a surprise really because I couldn’t remember entering the competition.

“However, I am really looking forward to meeting him, because I really like his music.”

She added that she would be taking her friend to the event on Saturday August 27, where pop rock band Scouting for Girls will be warming up for Will Young.

“We haven’t seen Will Young live before, so we are both excited to see him, my favourite songs are Jealousy and Evergreen.”

“I think I have admired him ever since he stood up to Simon Cowell.”

Somerset Rocks will be a three-evening live music event, with Status Quo performing on the Friday night, August 26, and Jools Holland, with support from Red Sky July, taking to the stage on Sunday August 28.
