A BBC CrimeWatch roadshow appeal has generated reported sightings of a Somerset man missing for 14 months.

Scott Cook was last seen near his home in Sunnyside Road, Weston-super-Mare, at 9.30pm on Saturday, April 25, last year, and police are increasingly worried about him.

DCI Ray Hulin, who is overseeing the missing person enquiry, and Scott’s foster mum, Doreen Jones, made the plea on last week - it can still be seen on the BBC CrimeWatch Roadshow website.

Scott, also known as Jay, is a white man, about 5ft 5ins tall and has a tattoo on his left arm which says ‘Jay Dot’.

He will now be 26 and at the time he went missing he was described as slim with a shaven head.

His friends said he sometimes has a goatee-type beard and usually wears dark navy joggers or jeans and a t-shirt.

While officers have no information to suggest he has left the area, he is also believed to be familiar with the Bisley, Bishops Cleeve and Tewskesbury areas of Gloucestershire.

As well as issuing appeals for information, distributing posters and carrying out searches in a number of locations around the town, police are grateful for the support of the charity Missing People, which included arranging for Scott’s details to feature in The Big Issue magazine.

Specialist teams have searched local woodland for signs of a camp after his friends suggested he had wanted to go 'off grid' for a while, but found no trace of him.

Officers have been unable to confirm any sightings of Scott and have not identified any financial transactions within the past year.

DCI Hulin said: "I’m becoming increasingly concerned about the whereabouts of Scott.

"I would appeal to anyone who spoke to Scott prior to his disappearance or since his disappearance and I appeal directly to any individual who knows the specific circumstances of his disappearance to contact us.”

Doreen Jones said on the programme: “Scott moved in with us for two weeks and then stayed for eight years. He quickly became part of the family.

"Scott had a real desire to help other people but he found everyday life really challenging.”

Doreen explained that she reported Scott missing after his landlady called to say she hadn’t seen him for two days.

DCI Hulin added: “On behalf of Scott’s family and friends and the investigating officers, I’d like to thank everyone who took the trouble to call in with sightings and information after the programme.

"We’re particularly keen to hear from an anonymous man who called to say he’d seen someone with a similar tattoo in Gosport, Hampshire, to get in touch again.

“My message to Scott is please just make contact. Everyone wants to know you’re all right.

"If you don’t want to talk to the police, get in touch with a family member, friend or the Missing People charity.”
