A GROUP of engineering students from Bridgwater College headed to Barcelona to enjoy a taste of the Spanish industry.
Stop number one involved a visit to the Formula One circuit at Cataluña.
The students were given the opportunity to tour the backstage areas of the track, stand on the podium, view inside some of the garages and visit the pit lane.
The group also visited Barcelona University’s Supercomputing Centre.
They were able to gain an insight into one of the most powerful supercomputers in Europe, the MareNostrum, which was instrumental in the development of modern microchip technology.
The final day gave the students the chance to tour Nou Camp Stadium.
Student Tom Harkness, who is studying the level three electrical and electronic engineering at the college, said: "The residential trip to Barcelona was amazing.
"I had a great time- the highlight for me was the trip to the supercomputing centre.
"This is something I could see myself doing in the future."
Mike Vittery, course leader, said: "We put the residential trips on for the students to give them a glimpse in to the world of engineering.
"It was a fantastic trip and will not only give the students some good memories and experiences, but will also help to guide them in their future careers."
