IT’S BEEN an odd few weeks recently hasn’t it. Our national football team did their usual wonderful job of building our hopes up only to dash them all again. Of course there’s been one or two things going on in the world of politics and by the end of the year the political landscape is going to look a whole lot different from where we were just a few short weeks ago.

I was having a chat with someone over coffee recently and they expressed genuine surprise that my working day is as long as it is. If you were under the impression that I only work between 7 & 11 in the mornings then you are a long way off. I’m always at the station long before the programme starts and rarely finish before 7pm in the evening. Even Jackie, who presents the hour long daily magazine show, works around an extra ten hours a week on top of her on air duties, much of which is taken up by arranging guests and background work. Not all glitz and glam this radio lark sadly.

We have a new member of the team from this week as Paige has joined us. You won’t be hearing Paige on air just yet, but she has joined the team behind the scenes doing some of the bits that you don’t get to hear about on the radio such as research and admin. Welcome to the team Paige, hopefully you’ll enjoy your time with us.

Finally, the answer to last week’s teaser: I asked you approximately how many people lived in Bridgwater at the time of the Domesday Book? The answer? Around 160. I think it’s safe to say we’ve grown a bit since then, although there would have been fewer traffic problems I guess. Onto this week’s teaser: When did the annual fair in Bridgwater start? No cheating, I’ll give you the answer in next week’s column. Have a great week.

You can hear Dave Englefield on the Breakfast Show on 104.2 Sedgemoor FM, weekdays from 7am
