IT'S going to be a right knees up at the Mendip Mower Racing and Family Festival, as the Wurzels are set to take the stage.

Organised by Bridgwater-based YMCA Somerset Coast, the event will be held on August 27 to 29 in Cross.

The Wurzels will be followed by Somerset favourites such as Lauren Male and Five Tail Fox, with more live acts continuing throughout the weekend.

Charlotte Grant, of YMCA Somerset Coast, said: "We like to celebrate our county and just thought that The Wurzels would be a great pairing amongst everything else at the event.

"The Wurzels, cider, high speed lawn mowers – it had to happen eventually."

The aim of the festival is to create something which all ages can enjoy, with a focus on trying something new and promoting a sense of community and fun.

Last year, the event welcomed 3,000 people who came to see the classic cars, live bands, sample the beer and take part in Zorbing, forest schools and Segways.

Visitors could also watch the lawn mower racing, which is delivered by professional from The British Lawn Mower Racing Association.

New features this year include a reptile petting zoo, dog agility demonstrations and have-a-go items.

As well as The Wurzels, there will be live music from The River Brew, The Pineapple Poets and other local talent.

A Beer and Cider Festival delivered by The New Inn at Cross will offer over 30 craft beers and ciders and street food.

There will be practice laps on Saturday of the August bank holiday weekend, along with the classic show, with the full race line up on Sunday and Monday.

Children under 12 go free and tickets are £5 for a day or £10 for three days, available on the gate.

There is plenty of free parking on site.

Any funds raised for this event will go to YMCA Somerset Coast to help end youth homelessness in Somerset.
