CONGRATULATIONS are in order, as the team at a pub near Bridgwater has scooped an award for the quality of their beer.

The Bower Inn passed an independent inspection from the real ale auditors’ Cask Marque after being assessed by a qualified and senior brewer.

The accreditation is only awarded to licensees who can demonstrate they serve their ale to the highest standards

Co-owner, Peter Starling, who runs the Inn with his wife Candida Leaver, said: "This award is a great endorsement for us.

"A lot of our customers visit the pub especially for the cask ale and it is really gratifying to know that we are getting the quality just right."

Cask Marque director, Paul Nunny, said: "The Bower Inn should feel justifiably proud of this excellent achievement, which not only recognises the effort its team puts into serving the perfect pint but also acts as an independent guarantee of quality for their customers.

"All too often publicans don’t appreciate the care and attention cask beers require and then run the risk of losing custom by serving pints that are below par."

The Bower Inn is situated on Bower Lane, on the outskirts of Bridgwater.

Bar Manager, Nick Kenyon, said: “We’ve recently started stocking some new craft ciders and beers to meet customer demand including Bad Apple Craft Cider, American pale ale Shed Head, which is brewed in Sweden and then imported to the UK, and Birra Poretti – an Italian Pilsner brewed in Varese since 1877.

"We also now stock a range of world craft beers in bottles to keep in touch with the ever expanding craft beer market.

"With five currently on offer including Anchor Steam Beer, a US imitation of a UK beer, Grimbergen Blonde, a Belgian golden beer, Brooklyn East IPA – American hops and British malt makes this a perfect balance of two cultures coming together.

"Great with seafood or a lump of English cheddar.

"We also have Sam Adams Boston Lager – a true American favourite.

"Samuel Adams has only been brewing for 32 years but is a household name across the US.

"This full bodied brew is robust and rich with character. Its deep golden colour and signature aroma, coupled with the flavour of malt and a delicate toffee sweetness, make this beer a great choice all year round.

"Last up is Anchor Porter, which is the epitome of a handcrafted dark beer.

"Great with some rich dark chocolate brownie, which we also have on the menu."
