Crews have been tackling the blaze since, and managed to get the fire under control at 10.45am.

Several engines from across Somerset, plus the incident command unit from street and the water carrier from Yeovil.

Burnham and Highbridge Weekly News:

At 10.45am, they scaled the incident down to three engines, the water carrier and an aerial ladder platform from Bridgwater.

A water tower has been used on the fire.

The road will be closed for another hour or so, as while the fire is under control, the hay is still smouldering.

Ian Hazleton, watch manager for Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service, said: "We were called to a fire in a derelict farm building, and we have managed to get it under control.

"We used main jets and compressed air foam and we believe the cause of the fire was accidental.

"There is a lot of straw and hay inside the building."

A resident who wished not to be named, said the fire started earlier on this morning.

The ambulance service attended but were not needed.
