TAUNTON builder Shaun Anthony is hoping to become the next 'Psycho'.

But no need to be afraid - he's on track to follow in the footsteps of former England football star Stuart Pearce, who was nicknamed Psycho for his aggressive style.

Shaun, aged 35, made it through to the final stage of the Fiat Professional Tradesman Trials, a nationwide search to find a tradesman good enough to play in the Football League.

He is among 20 entrants invited to a trials day at Bisham Abbey National Sports Centre.

Shaun is a former member of the Bristol City academy, and has also been on the books of Bournemouth and Yeovil Town.

He now owns his own building contractor firm called Oakleaf Building Ltd and currently plays football locally.

Former tradesman turned professional footballers Stuart Pearce (electrician), Dean Windass (hod carrier) and Geoff Horsfield (builder) put the 20 triallists through their paces at Bisham Abbey, testing every aspect of their footballing ability.

The winner will receive a one-month pre-season trial at a choice of one of the 29 opted in Football League clubs, which include Championship giants Nottingham Forest, Fulham FC and Ipswich Town. The winner will also be rewarded with a £2,000 prize.
