A MOTORIST who died after a three car crash was two and a quarter times over the legal drink drive limit, an inquest has heard.

Jeanette England, 64, of Mill Lane, Cannington, was killed as a result of multiple injuries and multiple trauma sustained in the crash on the A39 Quantock Road on February 3, at 4:55pm.

An inquest into her death was held on June 22 and heard that Mrs England was travelling towards Bridgwater from Cannington when she crashed into two cars heading the opposite way.

Mrs England, who was driving a red Ford Fiesta, was seen drifting towards the side of the road, before swerving back and colliding with Mr Daniel Moore's silver blue Renault Scenic.

She then crashed into Mrs Guest's Honda Jazz.

The inquest heard witness evidence by PC Andy Grigg, from Mr Moore, read out by Senior Coroner for Somerset Eastern Tony Williams.

He said: "Mr Moore described the conditions as dry and daylight.

"He saw the Fiesta coming in the opposite direction and drift towards the verge on the side of the road, and then back onto the main carriageway.

"The car then crossed over and hit Mrs Moore's car, causing extensive front end damage.

"It span in a clockwise direction."

The inquest also heard statements from Mrs Guest, whose vehicle was also involved in the collision.

She said: "Mrs Guest was travelling towards Bridgwater and was in a line of traffic.

"She saw the red car collide with the car in front of her, and then it crashed into the side of her car.

"Mrs Guest's car ended up facing the other way."

A statement was also given from another witness, Mr Willy.

He described how he saw a puff of smoke and the red car was at a 45 degree angle from the blue car.

Senior Coroner Tony Williams told the inquest how Mrs England was found lying parallel to her car on a nearby bank.

It could not be determined whether she climbed or was thrown from the car.

She died at the scene.

A report determined that Mrs England had 182 milligrams of alcohol in 100ml of blood, which made her just over two and a quarter times over the legal drink drive limit.

A police report stated that Mrs England sadly died at the scene from multiple injuries and trauma.

Senior Coroner Tony Williams ruled that the cause of death was a road traffic collision under the influence of excess alcohol.
