ORGANISERS of a Taunton-based cancer charity have been busy counting 5p coins donated in the past week.
The coins were among £560.78 donated to County Gazette-backed Somerset Unit for Radiotherapy Equipment (SURE), which helps equip the Beacon Centre cancer unit at Taunton's Musgrove Park Hospital.
There was £30 in 5ps from the Lads and Lassies in Boots, Taunton; £11 from Mollie and friends; £23.90 from Roy Hole; £19.15 from Mr and Mrs Coombs; £10 from the Wrangham Boys; £14 from Creech St Michael WI; £2 from Pat Sprague; and £15 from Jean Carey and friends.
The £61.48 from Wellesley Hall Community Club and Staplegrove Bowling Club was mostly in 5ps, while the £125.95 from the Beacon Centre included £121.95 in 5ps.
A bucket collection at the Tesco store in Taunton raised £218, there was an anonymous donation of £4.50, and a further £25.80 from Lin Keitch's afternoon tea at West Monkton Village Hall last month.
A total of £611,702.99 has been raised since SURE linked up with the Gazette.
