CHARITY workers, civil servants and more are among those from Somerset and Devon recognised in the Queen's Birthday Honours.

Taunton-based Colin Diamond, executive director of education for Birmingham City Council, receives a CBE for services to education.

And Bridget Warr, of Wellington, also receives a CBE for services to social care and the voluntary sector through her role as chief executive of the United Kingdom Home Care Association.

OBEs went to Dylan Idris Aplin, a security adviser for Avon and Somerset Police, of Bristol, for services to national security, and Robert Thomas Carlson, of Devon, a road safety manager at Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service, for services to road safety.

Laurie Adams, a group manager at Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service, from East Budleigh in Devon, received an MBE for services to flood capability policy and rescue services.

Robert Burns, of Glastonbury, also received an MBE for services to charity and the community in Somerset.

And Councillor Mark Healey, of Bridgwater, received an MBE for services to fire safety and fire service reform for his work as chairman of the Devon and Somerset Fire Authority.

Miss Felicity Wilson-Rudd, from Sidmouth in Devon, also received an MBE, for services to the Church of England and to mental health care in Somerset.

And Bhupendra Harji Magudia, of Nailsea, a senior executive officer at the Ministry of Defence, received an MBE for services in support of military training.

Naomi Thomas, founder of the Wedding Wishing Well Foundation, from Wellington, received the British Empire Medal (BEM) for charitable services to terminally ill people.

 Lysbeth Campbell Jones Ballantine, of Wells, received a BEM for her voluntary work with Save the Children.

Francis Leigh Farr-Cox, a former biodiversity officer with the Environment Agency, was also awarded a BEM for public and voluntary services to the natural environment in Somerset.

BEMs also went to Josephine Watts, of Minehead, the director and chairman of the Community Fundraising and Networking Panel, Home-Start, in West Somerset, for services to children and families, and to Alan White, a community safety officer with the Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service, from Exeter, for services to fire safety.
