SECRET World are planning their first ever music festival, which will feature a performance from legendary rocker Steve Harley.

Steve and his band Cockney Rebel will be getting the crowds jumping at Music in the Meadow.

The one day event will be held at the Secret World Rescue Centre’s site in East Huntspill, near Highbridge, on September 10.

Keith Weston, event organiser, said: “We’ve been bursting to announce this event, and we are so excited to now tell everyone that we have some brilliant musicians confirmed for our first ever music festival!

“Music in the Meadow will be in aid of Secret World and will support our work to rescue, rehabilitate and release injured and orphaned wildlife.

“It will be a family-friendly day with on-site catering and a licensed bar.”

Visitors have been flocking to events at Secret World for many years, however, it is usually for a chance to get close to the centre’s wildlife.

This festival is a new venture for the centre, as they continue to try and raise funds to keep their good work going.

Steve Harley is an English rocker, best known for his work with the 1970s rock group Cockney Rebel.

He has written lyrics for several other artists, including Rod Stewart, who has described him as ‘one of the finest lyricists the UK has ever produced.’.

Inspirational punk rocker Toyah Willcox is also booked to play, and more acts will be announced in due course.

Mr Weston added: “We are all incredibly excited and we look forward to welcoming families and music-lovers to this really special event.”

Secret World Wildlife Rescue provides a 24/7 rescue service caring for sick, injured and orphaned wildlife, and they rescue over 5,000 animals a year.

Tickets will go on sale on Wednesday 8 June, priced at £20 each (£10 for under 16s, and children under 5 go free).
