FIRE crews from Chard, Ilminster and Crewkerne helped to deal with a fat silo fire.

The incident happened at Riverside Feeds, Crawley Farm in Yarcombe at around 12noon and the fire left the tank destroyed.

Originally, one fire engine from Chard, one from Honiton and one from Axminster were sent to the fire.

But on arrival, crews requested a further two engines to attend - one from Ilminster and another from Crewkerne.

The Incident Command Unit from Wiveliscombe also attended.

The silo tank was destroyed by fire and the large building attached to it was moderately damaged.

Crews used four breathing apparatus, two compressed air foam jets and one hose reel to deal with the incident.

Several tonnes of animal feed was contaminated by fire but all water run off was contained.

The cause of the fire is believed to be accidental.
