BRIDGWATER'S MP, Ian Liddell-Grainger has slammed a committee in which his neighbouring MP sits, accusing them of 'causing trouble' for Hinkley Point C.

Mr Liddell-Grainger said that the Energy and Climate Committee are a group of 'petty minded' people who should 'admit they are an anti-nuclear committee.'

Neighbouring MP James Heappey, for Burnham-on-Sea, is a member of the ECC.

The committee is appointed by the House of Commons to examine the expenditure, administration and policy of the Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) and its associated public bodies.

There are 11 members, chaired by Angus MacNeil MP.

Mr Liddell-Grainger said: "I've had enough of this.

"The ECC Select Committee is anti-nuclear, have never liked nuclear and never will.

"These people are out to stop it- one of my neighbouring MPs is on the committee.

"I myself have sat on five committees so I know what I'm talking about and I think it's appalling.

"They're just out to cause trouble for Hinkley."

Mr Liddell-Grainger said that despite his views on the ECC Select Committee, 'nothing has changed.'

"This committee just doesn't work," he said.

"Nothing has changed even though they are trying to cause trouble and I just don't understand why they don't admit they are an anti nuclear and Hinkley group, instead of trying to be clever.

"They're not clever.

"We are building an industry here and to have a load of people saying they don't like it just because they think it's bad is very sad.

"There is no equivalent like this in the UK and this group doesn't help.

"I'm very cross- it's so petty minded and ridiculous."

Mr Liddell-Grainger's comments after Hitachi unveiled a construction consortium to build a £10billion nuclear power station in Wales 'on time and on budget,' as a rival to the French-backed plans for Hinkley Point C.
