A BRIDGWATER family has spoken of a ‘nightmare ordeal’ after a car crashed into their house and drove off.
Ellie Rayson’s home, in Moravia Close, was “substantially” damaged by a vehicle, which drove off without leaving any details on April 15 around 11:30am.
Police are currently appealing for witnesses or information, and Mrs Rayson, who lives with her husband Lee and their children, says she feels ‘upset’ and ‘stressed’ at what has happened.

“I was at home when I just heard a massive bang,” she said.
“I ran into the office which is at the front of the house and the fish tank was across the room and all the furniture had shunted.
“All the corner bricks of the house have been knocked and the internal walls are cracked."
“We’ve got trees out the front, which probably prevented paint from the car going anywhere, but there’s no way that vehicle would have come away scot-free," she added.

The damaged area is cordoned off

“The impact was huge and damage to our house is dreadful – I was horrified.”
Mrs Rayson also says she feels ‘frustrated’ with how the police have handled the incident.
“We phoned the police straight away and they couldn’t come out to see us for four days,” she added.
“I feel very frustrated by this, and the person who committed this offence needs to be caught.
“There’s often children playing out there in the close and my husband uses our office two days a week for work, so it was so lucky that nobody was hurt.
“We’re still unsure currently, but the damage is going to cost us around £50,000 and the whole side of the house needs to be taken off.
“My home is cracking day by day and we’re sick with worry.
“My daughter has her A-Levels at the moment and she’s struggling to cope.
“The whole thing is a nightmare ordeal, and someone out there knows what’s happened and or must have seen something, because there’s only one way in and out of the close.”

Mrs Rayson is urging anyone with information to come forward.
“We’ve been left so upset and stressed by this and I urge anyone who knows anything to come forward,” she said.
“Someone knows or someone is covering for someone – it’s a serious crime,” she said.
The only information the police have is that the car was possibly black. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Collisions Unit on 101 and quoting reference number 2016/2788.

Superintendent Mike Prior said: “Our investigation into the incident is ongoing, and we would still like to hear from anyone who may have information regarding this collision in Moravia Close on April 15 at approximately 11.30am.
“The car that hit the victim’s house will have been severely damaged. Do you know anyone whose vehicle was badly damaged at the time?
"Did you see a car, possibly black in colour, with severe damage to the bodywork in the area at the time?"
“Please call us on 101 and quote reference number 2016/2788 if you have any information that could help us.

Supt Prior added: “We are also currently reviewing our response to this incident.
“We didn’t initially provide the service as quickly as the victim both expected and deserved, and we offer our sincere apologies to her for this.
“We have been in contact with the victim and her family and will be keeping them updated as to our progress going forwards.”
