A CONSERVATION area in Wellington is benefiting from a donation of young trees from a Somerset garden centre.

The project near the Wellington basin, run by Norman Hollinshead, has received a donation of saplings from Monkton Elm Garden & Pet Centre.

He said: “I am really thrilled with Monkton Elm’s donation of saplings for the project. I have planned to plant a large woodland area and I have already purchased lots of trees for the project and have received many generous donations from local residents.

"The donation from Monkton Elm is very much appreciated.”

Monkton Elm Garden & Pet Centre at Monkton Heathfield near Taunton runs the sapling giveaway scheme annually.

Schools, charities and not-for-profit organisations were invited to receive groups of 16 small indigenous British varieties.

Andrew Pitman, store manager, said: “Our sapling giveaway has once again been hugely successful and we had lots of people come forwards for the free trees.

“It’s extremely interesting to read all about the different projects going on. We’re delighted to have helped Norman with his project.”
