ILMINSTER’S Audi specialist saw former-Top Gear presenter James May go behind the wheel of their prized sports car recently.

James May drove one of AM Cars’ Audi Quattros for his show, James May’s Cars of the People.

Filming for the show took place in the autumn, with the Ilminster motors featuring in last week’s episode.

Adam Marsden, of AM Cars, said: “We supplied the two cars, the Group B Quattro rally car and the silver road car, and we went to Dave Higgins Rally School up in Wales, just outside Newtown and obviously we met the film crew up in the forest.

“Then we got all the cameras on and we were up there for the whole day, and then James May set off in the silver car during that shoot.

Adam Marsden and his team got to meet James May, who came to fame as one third of the Top Gear presenting team.

“Yeah, he is completely different off screen,” Adam said.

“I have met him before, in Barbados. We got invited over to the Top Gear live.

“We met May and Clarkson and Hammond, that was in June 2014. Lewis Hamilton and Ken Block were also there.

“I actually sat with James May. There was a party at the end of it having a drink together which he remembered.

“We walked in and he was doing his script and he looked up and I said ‘Barbados last year’ and he shook my hand and was really pleased I was supplying the car.”

“Dave Higgins is the seven-time rally champion of America. He said to me ‘I loved every minute of it, to drive this kind of car. People have been texting us and ringing us to say it looked brilliant on TV.”
