One of Bridgwater’s most famous carnival clubs is appealing for help following the loss of its build shed.

“They say all things come to an end,” said British Flag member Roger Brown, “but sadly after 60 years the British Flag Carnival Club has been given notice to vacate our dear old carnival building shed. Now we have no option but to tear the building down and completely clear the site. So we are in the same position that so many other carnival clubs have to face – where to go?”

The reason behind the problem is as Mr Brown says is not unique to the club. Other clubs are known to be under pressure from land owners to move as land prices rise in Bridgwater. It is one aspect of the boom the town is experiencing as developers move in to build on land that for years has been used by carnival clubs to build their carts.

“We are inspired by other clubs who have had to move sheds , who have survived, improved and now have somewhere great to build their carts,” he said, “2016 is a challenging year for the club but we will all try our very best to get over this problem. If anyone can help with advice or news suitable sites please get in touch.”

The club can be contacted on their website, Facebook site or within the fine portals of the British Flag pub in Bridgwater.
