THE people of Burnham caused a splash at the annual swimarathon, organised by the town's Rotary Club.

The event took place at Brean Splash on Sunday February 7, beginning at 9.30 a.m.

Ten teams made up of a total of 55 swimmers took part, achieving a total between them of 2,540 lengths of the Pool, which equates to some 64 km or roughly the distance from Burnham to Exeter.

The teams’ final sponsorship totals have not yet been calculated but are believed to be in excess of £2000.

Previous Swimarathons have proved highly popular with local voluntary organisations and businesses, and teams have raised substantial sums of money for their own good cause or charity.

The organiser, Rotarian Terry Spragg, said: "This has once again been a most successful Swimarathon.

"The Club is grateful to the owners and staff of Brean Splash for their hospitality and facilities, to the sponsors of the medals awarded to participants and to everyone else who worked so hard to make this event a success."
