It was a day with a difference for students studying public and emergency services at Bridgwater College, as they visited Bridgwater Police Station.

The group of 21 level two pupils toured the new state of the art facility to gain an understanding and experience the police environment.

The viewing of the facility by Sargent Simon Smith gave the students the opportunity to see various departments, including the custody suite, holding area, custody cells, the photography and DNA rooms and an interview suite.

Student Jemima Williams, from Bridgwater, said: "It was an eye opening experience.

"It was great to learn more about the various parts of the custody process, for example, the different levels of a person in custody and the use of different types of equipment."

Tyne Govier, course leader for level two public and emergency services, said: "We use these types of visit to inspire our students and to help them understand and experience service life and the expectations that come with it.

"It also allows them to work with professionals within the industry, which will only benefit them in their future careers."
