KEEN Somerset jam makers are being reminded this month that there is still time to take part in a competition in aid of charity being organised by a farm shop.

Rumwell Farm Shop is hosting a Jam-uary competition from now until Sunday, January 31, to raise funds for the Somerset Unit for Radiotherapy Equipment (S.U.R.E).

Anne Mitchell, joint owner of the farm shop, said: “We are reminding people that our Jam-uary competition is open to all ages.

"People can create a sweet or savoury jam and the winning jam will be created by our team in our Jam Kitchen at the farm shop and sold throughout the year in aid of S.U.R.E.

“Twenty-five pence from each jam sold during 2016 will be donated to the charity. We hope lots of people get busy in their kitchen this month creating tasty jams for us to try.”

The jams created for the competition can be dropped off at the farm shop from now until 4pm on Sunday, January 31.

"The Rumwell Jam Kitchen staff will pick a winner on Monday, February 1.

“We can’t wait to taste the jams that are entered. We hope lots of people spread the word about our Jam-uary competition in aid of a very worthy local cause.”

S.U.R.E is a registered, independent charity based in Taunton.

Its objective is to raise funds to help provide top class cancer diagnosis and treatment at the Cancer Centre known as the Beacon Centre at Musgrove Park Hospital in Taunton.

The charity has so far donated more than £1.8 million of equipment to the centre. S.U.R.E is currently aiming to raise £500,000 by March 2017 to purchase a new Big Bore CT Scanner/Simulator to replace the previous scanner purchased by the charity.

Paul Alway, chairman at S.U.R.E, said: “We would like to say a huge ‘thank you’ to Rumwell Farm Shop for choosing us as one of its charities of the year for 2016. Its support is greatly appreciated.

"The Jam-uary competition in aid of us sounds like a great idea and we can’t wait to taste the winning jam.”
