TAUNTON Deane Mayor Marcia Hill wants to reward the area's unsung heroes - and she needs your help.

The Citizenship Awards recognise outstanding voluntary service in the district.

The local honours list could range from good neighbours to organisations contributing to the quality of life.

Mrs Hill said: “I've seen at first hand through visits the Consort and I've made across the borough that there's a great deal of unsung and unpaid community work locally.

"There are some remarkable people in Taunton Deane who regularly give up their time to help others.

“We want to make sure these people receive our sincere thanks on behalf of those who live and work in the borough so that they know how deeply their efforts are appreciated.”

The rules are simple - nominees must live in Taunton Deane, cannot have been recognised in the past for their services and must not earn their nomination from service given through their trade or profession.

The council expects to make three awards, but nominees should not be informed of their nomination at this stage.

Closing date for nominations is Friday, March 4, while the awards ceremony is in late April.

Get your nomination form from Jo Comer, Civic Officer, Mayor’s Parlour, The Deane House, Belvedere Road, Taunton TA1 1HE or e-mail mayor@tauntondeane.gov.uk with your name and address.
