IN the great quest for the uncertain histories of the Bridgwater’s boozers author Jane Penfold has reached the letter P and the letter Q.

We are seeking information on her behalf of pubs beginning with that letter anywhere in the greater Bridgwater area. This includes of course Cannington, Puriton, Higbridge, Burnham, Nether Stowey, North Petherton and anywhere out on the moors, down on the Levels, lost in the folds of the Quantocks or perched high up on the Poldens. From Brean to Stockland Bristol and back we are on the hunt for info on pubs.

Jane said she is interested in any memories of the Palace night club in Penel Orlieu and the Pig and Whistle on Parkway. Does anyone know anything about the Plough that was located at Angel Crescent in the town or the one at Holford? There’s a famous Punch bowl in Bristol’s Old Market but does anyone know the history or have notes on the one in Bridgwater’s West Quay which Jane believes was called The Ship and Castle. One again and she would like notes on the Puriton Inn as well as the Quantock Gateway on Wembdon Road.

Finally tow regally named pubs are on Jane’s list. She’s keen to discover more about The Queen in Bridgwater’s High Street and the Queen’s Head in old Eastover. Now there’s an area about to see a rise its fortunes. With the Queen to be 90 in 2016 perhaps it’s time for the name to be revived.

If you have notes on any of these pubs or pictures do email us at harry.mottram@nqsw.co.uk
