It was a night when jazz music and fund raising for radiotherapy equipment met in perfect harmony when a jazz club presented a cheque to SURE.
SURE is the Somerset cancer charity that supports the Beacon Centre at Musgrove Park Hospital.
The BD Jazz Club had raised the £1,000 over the previous twelve months, and presented this to SURE last Friday at their regular meeting in West Huntspill's Laburnham House. In addition to this, because the BD Jazz club did not hold their annual ball this year, Tony and Sheila Maundrell had taken it upon themselves to hold a separate Autumn ball, raising £2,258.58p for the charity making a total of £3,258.58p presented.
Discussions with the NHS and the decision to house a new Haematology and Oncology Centre at Musgrove Park Hospital, Taunton, resulted in the Beacon Centre at Musgrove Park Hospital opening its doors in 2009, with SURE taking responsibility for providing the centre with a CT scanner/simulator and to contribute to the running costs for the first three years.
