IT was certainly a night to remember at the annual Secret World Wildlife Rescue auction and ball.

The East Huntspill animal centre held the event, in its 14th year, at the at the Webbington Hotel on November 28.

A range of items were auctioned off, including the chance to be in the audience in the One Show, a tour around the BBC, a day with Simon King O.B.E. to visit his Wild Meadows where countryside photography has taken place, and the opportunity to be a vet for a day.

The star attraction was an electric guitar signed by rock legend, Brian May, that sold for £2,700.

The guitar is dark blue with animals such as badgers and foxes painted up the neck and badgers painted on the main body.

Brian, of Queen fame, agreed to sign the instrument for the rescue centre as he supports the work Secret World do with wildlife.

Founder of the charity, Pauline Kidner, said: "Someone gave us a guitar and one of our volunteers, April Dunnett, painted the frets with badgers, deer, foxes and many other animals.

"Brian is very supportive of our work especially with badgers and we were so pleased when he agreed to sign it for us."

The event raised just over £10,000 in total.

"The evening started with piper, Stuart Gosby, from North Devon Pipe and Drummers performing to the audience," added Pauline.

"We also had the dance troupe, Ghosts and Ghouls, dancing to Thriller, and they were joined by Quantock Veterinary staff.

"A lot of people came in fancy dress and the Weston-Super-Mare Lions did the casino for us.

"The Webbington were amazing to us and it was a fabulous evening.

"Everyone had a great time and we raised just over £10,000, which are funds we desperately need for the charity."
