A BRIDGWATER man has been left angry and upset after he claims nobody came to help when the fire alarm went off in his council supported accommodation.

John Hunt, 64, lives at Taylor Court in Bridgwater and at 5.30am on Monday November 23, awoke to the sound of the fire alarm.

The fire service arrived and even though it was a false call, John says that nobody from Homes in Sedgemoor, who provide the accommodation, came to check things over.

"The fire alarm was blaring at half past five in the morning," said John.

"The fire brigade arrived within about three minutes but nobody turned up from Homes in Sedgemoor the next day to see if everyone was safe.

"I went into the Bridgwater office on Tuesday and asked twice to speak to the manager and nobody would come and speak to me,

"I asked if I could speak with whoever was in charge face to face and I was told no.

"I feel like I was fobbed off."

John claims that many residents at Taylor Court were left upset by the incident.

"There are a lot of elderly people living here," added John.

"I saw 94 year old ladies crying and very upset in the middle of the night when that alarm was going off, and not one person came to check on us the next day.

"I suffer from severe depression and this is hardly going to help.

"I want this taken seriously and although it was a false call, it may not be in future.

"There are 30 odd flats and we're not allowed to have plants in the communal areas, yet a serious matter like this is overlooked.

"It's sheer inpoliteness."

A spokesperson for Homes in Sedgemoor said: "Following the fire alarm going off at Taylor Court, there was a delay in the lifeline officers being despatched to reset the alarm.

"Homes in Sedgemoor were then made aware of this issue on Monday 23 when Mr Hunt attended our offices in King Square.

"The manager he asked to see is not responsible for Supported Housing Schemes however, our supported housing team leader did go down to reception to discuss the matter further with Mr Hunt.

"Following on from this incident all lifeline operators have been reminded of the procedure for silencing and resetting of Homes in Sedgemoor fire alarm activations."
