A TALENTED pupil from Bridgwater has released a charity single that he wrote and recorded as part of his studies.

Alex Smith, 14, who attends Chilton Trinity has just started his year ten music BTEC and as part of the course, had to create and write his own song.

He was selected by his teacher to put forward his work to be released as the school's charity single, to raise money for SANDS- stillbirth and neonatal death charity.

The single, titled Tonight, went on sale on November 20 on Bandcamp for £1 per download, as part of the school's Frankly Winter Wonders concert which will be held in December.

Chilton Trinity are also selling CD copies for £2, featuring Tonight as the main song as well as other students' work.

Sally Smith, Alex's mum, said: "We're all very proud of Alex for writing his own song and having it chosen.

"He's very excited and has never really been aware of how good he is.

"Alex is quite a sensitive lad so this is very good for his confidence "The song has already had hundreds of streams and has been shared on Facebook by so many people.

"Alex is desperate to smash school records that we're hoping everyone gets behind him and downloads the song for a charity that is very personal for the school."

Alex, who lives in Woolavington, attended Woolavington Village Primary School before Chilton Trinity.

"It's very difficult for a 14 year old to find the rights words for a song for this charity," added Sally.

"I'm so proud of what he's written and so many people have said it is a very fitting tribute.

"The song is so moving.

"Alex has played the guitar from a young age and is possibly thinking about going into a music career.

"All his old teachers have bought and shared his song and it's just so lovely to see.

"I'm very proud."
