ONE of BARB's founding members has stepped down as the harbour officer for the port of Bridgwater.
Ricky Holmes, from Burnham, was also chairman of the hovercraft charity before joining the RNLI in 2003 as a tractor driver, and progressing to the status of Deputy Launch Authority.
He became Burnham RNLI lifeboat operations manager, serving for five years, before handing over last Christmas.
Ricky is the son of the late Peter Holmes who founded the League of Friends of Burnham Hospital.
He was taught locally at St Dunstans school, before attending HMS Conway Naval college and joining the merchant Navy.
His leaving was marked by a retirement party at Burnham’s La Vela Italian Restaurant, with his harbour associates.
He he was presented with leaving gifts, and thanked for his dedicated service.
His post has been filled by Lyndon Baker, who is also a lifeboat volunteer.
