IT was paintings and masterpieces at the National Autistic Society art exhibition and competition.

The event was held on Friday October 23 at the Somerset Court estate in Brent Knoll.

Residents at the centre were all invited to take part and 45 pieces of work were entered.

The top ten will then go on to the national competition in London in November.

The overall winner was Carwynn Davies, who created a piece of artwork based on a rollercoaster, which took two years to produce.

The piece is made out of balls of tissue paper and red and white wool.

Organiser Sally Edwards said: "It was a brilliant evening and everyone enjoyed it.

"All the entries were great and people put in so much effort.

"There was wine and cheese for people and we are definitely going to do an event like this again as this is the first of its kind we have done.

"Local artists Margaret Micklewright and Sue Hammond-Lovett came to judge the artwork and the top ten pieces will go to London.

"Margaret and Sue signed certificates for everyone who entered which came to nearly 50 pieces of work and said it was a pleasure to be here to see what an effort everyone had made.

"Everyone got rosettes too though this nearly didn't happen as the rosette order didn't arrive in time, but the day was saved by Debbie Cooke from East Huntspill who makes up rosettes and got 40 done on the day by 3.30pm ready for the exhibition at 4pm.

"We would like to thank her very much and to Sally March at Alstone Road Riding School for arranging it."
