FLORISTRY students from Bridgwater College’s Cannington Centre have started their new term with an exciting visit to Salisbury Cathedral.

The group observed the displays that commemorated the 800th anniversary of the sealing of the Magna Carta.

The visit gave the students the chance to gather ideas for their own Church Flower Festival, which will be held at Cannington Parish Church in May next year.

Ruby Cresswell, who is studying the level three diploma in floristry at Bridgwater College, said: "I have been inspired by this trip and hope to explore some of the techniques I discovered today to build my design portfolio.

"Many of the displays could be considered full scale art installations."

Jacqui Weaver, course leader for floristry at the college, said: "This event allowed the students to witness large scale designs within an historic setting, and reflect on the impact the Magna Carta sealing had on everyday life since its inception.

"We are looking forward to expanding our design research further during our study tours to Holland and Girona in the spring term."
