A student from The King Alfred School in Burnham has been appointed as one of only two UK Unicef Youth Ambassadors.

Thrinayani Ramarishnan, of year 13, survived a rigorous application and interview process and has recently enjoyed her first board meeting in London.

Unicef is the world’s leading organisation for children, promoting the rights and wellbeing of every child and work in 190 countries.

At the meeting, Thrinayani met with the chair of the board, Ilse Howling and the executive director David Bull, as well as other trustees.

These included Glyn Isherwood, chief financial officer for Channel 4, Mark Makepeace, chief executive and founder of FTSE group, Baroness Bryony Worthington, UK Labour Party's Shadow Minister on energy and climate change in the Lords, Baroness Sal Brinton, Liberal Democrat peer, Baroness Anne Jenkin, Conservative peer, Sir Tony Redmond and Steven Day, director of corporate affairs at Virgin Mobile.

Unicef UK raises funds to protect children in danger, transform their lives and build a safer world for children.

J Gaskell, head of sixth form at The King Alfred School, said: "Thrinayani is an excellent role model to our school community and her sense of civic responsibility is an example to all."
