STOGUMBER played host to three days of top class folk, jazz and classical concerts, attracting around 1,200 visitors to the village last weekend.

Headline acts included legendary folk singer, and one half of the enduringly popular Show of Hands duo Steve Knightley who opened the festival with a solo gig on Friday night.

Also appearing were the Edinburgh-based classical trio, the Hebrides Ensemble, quirky jazz/pop/musical theatre singer Gwyneth Herbert and rising star of the Royal Opera House, Ashley Riches.

Festival spokesman Kelvin Hopkins said: "This year's festival went particularly well and we were really pleased with the results plus we had pretty good weather in spite of the forecast."

"People are always amazed at the calibre of musician we attract to such a small village and this year was no different," he added.

Mr Hopkins said that the festival was very lucky to have local musician Ange Hardy perform after a breakthrough year in which she was nominated at the BBC Folk Awards.

"The festival has a great atmosphere, it was wonderful to see people dancing along with the African dance troupe who performed on the Friday night," he said.

"One of the funniest moments was when the marching band went from the village hall to the town square, they were followed by a procession of 40-50 people, it looked like something out of the pied piper of Hamlyn."
