September 7, 1990

DOG owners in the Winchester Road area of Burnham were furious at Sedgemoor District Council's plans to ban dogs from the nearby park.

BRIGADES from Burnham and Bridgwater fought a disastrous fire at Glebe Farm, Mark, which destroyed 25 tonnes on straw in a barn as well as two tractors.

THE local Round Table helped Burnham's troubled Citizen's Advice Bureau by presenting the organisation with a £400 cheque.

BURNHAM and Highbridge Weekly News reporter George Winter was presented with an award for his outstanding contribution to the local community at the Mayor's Civic Sunday.

ORGANISERS were planning to press ahead with plans for a free charity rock concert on Burnham Beach despite a snub by Sedgemoor District Council's leisure chiefs and police voicing their safety concerns.

AMATEUR archaeologist Alistair Murray uncovered pieces of German and French pottery dating back to the 13th century - following a dig in his own back garden in West Huntspill!

TALENTED Burnham resident Dave Morris developed his career in joinery into a fantastic hobby, creating beautiful ornamental clocks and two full-size rocking horses from scratch.

BURNHAM florist Ashley Brunt was celebrating his first major success at the Oasis Interflora Floristry Competition held at the National Agriculture Centre in Warwickshire.

AN EAST Huntspill barn became the unlikely venue for a concert by pop megastars Westlife after 20-year-old Chloe Gamblin won a television competition.

MINDLESS vandals ruined thousands of pounds worth of equipment at Animal Farm in Berrow before trying to make the slowest getaway in history in a novelty train.

BOATERS in the Burnham area had the chance to use a special traditionally built 32ft pilot gigs as part of the 2005 Victory Challenge, a charity row from North Cornwall to London.
