TAUNTON School started the academic year today (Thursday, September 3) with two new deputy heads.

Ed Burnett has joined as deputy head and designated safeguarding lead, while Damian Henderson is deputy head (academic).

It marks a return to the county town for Mr Burnett, who taught for a year at King’s College, while his wife Valerie was a teacher at Taunton School during the same period.

Mr Burnett, who has also taught in Hong Kong, was at Cranleigh School in Surrey for the past ten years, latterly as a housemaster and previously as head of economics and business studies and head of rugby.

Mr Henderson spent the first decade of his career in boarding schools - Eton College and Cranleigh School.

He was then head of French and International Baccaulareate co-ordinator at The Stephen Perse Foundation, in Cambridge, where, in addition to languages, he taught theory of knowledge and global outlook.

Headmaster Lee Glaser said: “We are thrilled to welcome Ed and Damian to the school and the senior team.

“They are outstanding educators and believe wholeheartedly in the Taunton School ethos.

“They will play a key part in building on our strengths and implementing our shared vision for the school.”

*YOU can meet Mr Glaser and the new Deputy Heads at the next Taunton School Open Morning (0-18 years) on Saturday, October 3.
