SOMERSET farmers took to the streets of Taunton on Wednesday to hand out free ice cream and pasties to highlight the quality British produce they have on offer.

The giveaway came as part of the Back British Farming after farmers have been protesting the price that supermarkets pay for milk.

Brian Tapp, a West Somerset farmer on the Bye dairy farm, said: "We are trying to persuade public to support us by buying British whenever they can.

"Look out for the red tractor which shows it is quality assured. That would help us get through these rather difficult times."

The hand out was held between 1pm and 2pm on August 26, on North Street in Taunton.

Matt Uren, a representative from the National Farmer's Union, said: "We want to raise awareness of what quality British products are coming out of Somerset."
