YOU can find out how to lead a healthier life at an open-air fair in the centre of Taunton.

The Healthy Living Fair will offer fun ways of finding out more about health and wellbeing, with free activities, check-ups and advice.

The event, organised by Taunton Deane Council with support from several partners and Somerset Public Health, is at Castle Green on Saturday, September 19, from 10am to 3pm.

Cllr Vivienne Stock-Williams, the council’s lead member for health and wellbeing, said: “We wanted to show the diversity of services available and for all age ranges.

“As well as providing information and guidance we have interactive stalls, such as a kettledrum challenge, a children’s throwing challenge, and mini health and life-style check-ups, including blood pressure and BMI tests.”

Among those taking part, Somerset County Council will showcase the new Somerset Choices website helping people access care and support services that encourage them to live healthier lives and maintain independence within the community for longer.

The Deane’s leisure operator Tone Leisure will offer healthy life-style checks – and invite you to join a ‘wake and shake’ exercise class.

Smokefreelife Somerset will be on hand to help people give up smoking for good.

Community Catalysts CIC, which supports the development of very small, community-based care and support services, will give advice on starting out as a business.

And Wessex Water will tell you how you can spread the cost of your water bill or even reduce it – and they’ll give you a free water saving pack or water bottle.

On offer during the day will be various freebies and the chance to enter a prize draw with great prizes including a swimming pass from Tone Leisure and afternoon tea at the Castle Café based in the Museum of Somerset.
