A SEVEN-YEAR-OLD boy from Cotford has proven that you are never too young to start raising money for a good cause after completing a two-and-a-half mile run.

Brandon Hughes from Cotford St Luke managed to raise over £600 last Friday after completing the run at Longrun Meadow for Freddie’s Gift.

Freddie’s Gift was set up by Hannah and Damon Gibbons after their son Freddie tragically died at just two-and-a-half-yearsold earlier this year.

They have been trying to raise money for a Cover Cool Mini Cooling System to go at Musgrove Park Hospital.

This is a device which can cool a deceased infant, child or adult and will allow grieving families time to spend with their loved ones.

Their aim is to set up a charity and ensure all hospitals have the system, giving familie’s the gift of time.

Hannah said: “We would like to say a massive thank you to an incredible young lad called Brandon.

“He ran two-and-a-half miles without stopping last Friday at Longrun Meadow.

“He alone has raised over £600 for Freddie’s Gift.

Brandon understands what he has raised money for and that he has made a big contribution towards giving grieving families the Gift of Time.

“Well done little man, we cannot thank you enough.”

Brandon’s mum Melissa Chalmers said: “I used to know Hannah quite well and when we read what had happened to Freddie, it was heartbreaking and I thought we have to do something.

“I thought it would be good to get Brandon to try and push himself to run this far and the whole thing just spiralled and we had loads of donations.

“He understood exactly what he was running for and understood what it was about and what the money was going to be used for.

“Hannah gave him a trophy when he was done which he was chuffed with and we took him to Freddie’s grave.

“I’m really proud of him and it’s been lovely as he has made really good friends with Hannah and Damon’s two other sons.

“I think Brandon is the kind of child who will be climbing mountains to help raise money for other people.

Melissa added a big thank you to everyone who sponsored Brandon.
