WIVELISCOMBE Rugby Club are hoping to invoke the spirit of London 2012 by hosting a number of events promoting the Rugby World Cup in September.

To celebrate the start of the tournament the club are holding a Party in the Park on Saturday, September 12, at 7pm, with performances from the Taunton Male Voice Choir, The Deane Big Band and the Wiveliscombe Town Band.

Wiveliscombe last staged a Party in the Park some 15 years ago, so for many youngsters this will be a new experience as the familiar grandstand is transformed into a stage for the evening.

Admission is £10 for adults while kids go free, and audience members are asked to bring along their own food and drink.

The club is also holding a competition for local people to decorate their houses patriotically with a prize of two tickets to an Exeter Chiefs home European Cup Rugby Match.

There will be a RWC Launch Dinner preceding the England v Fiji match on Friday, September 18, where tickets are £10 for adults and £5 for children.

A spokesman for Wiveliscombe RFC said: "Following the impact of the 2012 Olympics Wiveliscombe RFC aim to make the 2015 RWC an event which will live long in our memories.

"Wiveliscombe Rugby Club will be screening all of England's matches on the big screen and welcome all to come down and savour the atmosphere. It is an opportunity for everyone at "grass roots level" to get involved and be a part of something special."

Tickets available from Webbers, Square Cut, Jeanette Parsons on 01823-400128 or Rachael Sharland on 01984-624648.
