TRAFFIC chaos ensued following a two car collision on the A38 near Taunton on Tuesday afternoon (August 25).

Cars were backed up through all the way through Taunton after the road had to be closed while firefighters rescued a woman trapped in her vehicle.

Four vehicles were involved in the crash resulting in a total of five casualties being taken to hospital following the accident.

Firefighters had to cut the roof off one of the vehicles involved in the crash to free the woman suffering neck pain.

She was then removed from the car using road rescue equipment following the incident shortly after 4.30pm on the A38 outside the Crown Inn, in Rumwell, near Bishop's Hull.

A spokesman for the South West Ambulance Service added: "We were called to an incident involving two cars at 4.36pm.

"One female, who had been released from her car by firefighters, was treated for a neck injury at the scene before being taken to Musgrove Park Hospital. The other four casualties were also taken to hospital as a precaution."

A spokesman for Avon and Somerset Constabulary said the casualties' injuries were not believed to be life threatening or life changing.

The road was completely blocked and re-opened at around 7pm after the vehicles were removed and a fuel spillage was cleared.
