Delighted students at Bridgwater College were this morning celebrating receiving their A level results after two years of hard work.

Among them was Josh Harris, who achieved an A* in maths, an A in physics and an A in computing.

He is now heading to Southampton University to study a degree in computer science and couldn't be happier.

"I'm so pleased with my results," said Josh.

"I didn't expect to get an A* so I'm very surprised.

"I'm now looking forward to going to Southampton University."

 Another high-flyer was talented dancer Hayley Holman, who was over the moon to have picked up an A in dance, an A in psychology and a C in maths.

She is now off to the Royal Academy of Dance in London to continue with her passion.

"I'm buzzing about my results," said Hayley.

"I actually can't believe it- especially with my psychology grade because I remember coming out of the exam and worrying about it.

"I'm so excited to be going to London and I will definitely be celebrating tonight."

Another double success story was achieved by twins Ivan and Frazer Proctor, who after a gruelling effort of hard work, are both heading to the same university together.

The duo are off to the Academy of Contemporary Music in Guildford to study song writing, after deciding to apply for the same thing.

Frazer (right) gained a B in sociology, a C in English and a C in music, and Ivan (left), although still waiting on his results, already has an unconditional offer for the course in the bag.

"We're both so excited to be going to uni together," said Frazer.

"It's a lot to process at the moment but once you're there you get into the swing of things.

"We're going out tonight to celebrate as well."

Oliver Cummings joined the crowd of ecstatic students, after achieving an impressive four A Levels with an A* in graphic communication, an A in geography, a C in maths and a D in physics.

He is continuing his studies at Oxford Brookes University with a degree in architecture.

"I'm so proud of all my hard work and can't wait to go to Oxford Brookes.

"I went to visit the campus and there was just a really exciting feel about the place.

"I took four A Levels because it meant I would get more UCAS points to get me into my first choice, and it paid off."

Bridgwater Mercury:

Elena Huntley, pictured with her mum Isabelle, achieved an A* in art, a B in English and an A in AS photography, and is now planning to study a foundation diploma in art, media and design and Bridgwater College.

Chloe Sellers gained a B in sociology, a B in archeology and a C in English and is delighted to be making the move down to Plymouth University to study sociology and criminology.

Likewise Cameron Freeman is extremely happy with his set of results, scooping a C in photography and a C in media studies.

He is excited to be moving to London to study marketing at the prestigious London School of Marketing.

Jack Cochrane recieved an A and two Bs and is off to Southampton Solent University to study sports journalism, after heading off for a celebratory trip to London tonight with his girlfriend.

Bella Barrington-Jones is having to postpone her celebrating for the night as she is moving house, but is proud to have achieved a B in maths, a C in further maths and an E in chemistry.

She is off to the university of Brighton to read maths and finance.

Bridgwater College principal Mike Robbins said: "We're delighted with the results this year.

"It really reflects the hard work that the students put in and the support they received from all the staff and parents.

"We've had a high pass rate, with only four fails out of 645 exams.

"The results are brilliant with some exceptional individuals."

Assistant principal Louise Rowley who is head of A Levels at Bridgwater College said: "This year has seen an outstanding set of results that we are all so proud of.

"It is a fantastic opportunity for the students and there is a real sense of achievement amongst them all.

"It's a really wonderful day."

Martyn Alridge, co-ordinator of the International Baccalaureate is also very proud of the students.

"We had many pupils who did the IB as well as study for their A Levels, which is really impressive.

"We are all so impressed with their achievements and those that took the IB gained some fantastic results- many above the national average."
