OAKE Manor Golf Club hosted a well supported charity golf day - in spite of almost constant rain.

The greens held up, although the putting green closest to the clubhouse resembled an upturned saucer surrounded by a moat during one heavy downpour.

But it didn't deter the 45 teams of four players who had signed up to play, and there were no drop outs.

Members of the Rotary Club of Taunton Vale, organised by Keith Bigwood, helped in reception and manning drink stations, while Inner Wheel served bacon butties and a hot drink at the half-way point.

As usual, there was food all day for participants in the restaurant, and the raffle raised over £1,000, thanks to generous sponsors.

Over £6,000 in total will be available for distribution, including sums to Reminiscence Learning and Conquest Riding for the Disabled and other local charities.

Rotary Club President Paul Hughes donned an Archie costume to pose with Fiona Mahoney of Reminiscence Learning and her helpers in the accompanying photograph.

Teams prepared for the rainy conditions. Inner Wheel members Shirley Mason, Pat Wyatt and Vanessa Marchmont serve bacon butties.

The next fundraising event organised by Rotary will be the Moonraker Challenge Walk, on October 3, starting from Taunton Racecourse, and teams are invited to register via the Moonraker website, where full details are displayed.
