The Wednesday of the annual Royal Welsh Show traditionally always draws the biggest crowds, with visitors flocking to Llanelwedd from all over the world to see the majestic and beautiful Welsh ponies and cobs competing for the coveted Royal Welsh championship titles.

Yesterday did not disappoint, with over 70,000 people filing through the gates to witness first hand the spectacle of the Royal Welsh Show.

The atmosphere around the showground reached fever pitch mid-afternoon when the cobs took centre stage in the main ring. With a packed out grandstand and thousands more watching from the grass bank, pavilion balconies and crowded main ring perimeter fence, the cheering could be heard throughout the showground when Mr Dorain Lloyd with Perthog Gwenan Mai, a three-year-old filly, was awarded with the prestigious George Prince of Wales Perpetual Cup.

Else where on the showground, and in keeping with the horse theme of the day, The 2015 President David Morgan gives details on Gwent’s (this years feature county) project.

“The Gwent feature county committee are extremely proud and very excited to be supporting the Royal Welsh Equine Project. This project aims to improve the equine facilities here on the showground and ultimately transform the venue into a top-quality equine centre that could be used throughout the year” explained Mr Morgan.

“This is a long-term project and we hope that future feature counties choose to continue to raise funds to ensure our vision comes to fruition. We are really pleased that the society itself has agreed to committee £300,000 of its funds to get the project started.”
