AROUND 2,100 women took part in the Taunton Race for Life yesterday, Sunday, July 19.

The participants held a minute's silence beforehand at Somerset College to remember those lost to cancer, including actress Lynda Bellingham, whose husband, Michael Pattemore launched the event.

Sponsorship from the day will go to Cancer Research UK.

Breast cancer survivor Shirley Williams, 67, from Taunton, who was diagnosed in 1997, was on stage.

She told how her granddaughter, Eliza Walker, is currently undergoing treatment for leukaemia at Musgrove Park Hospital.
